Lesson Overview
This ESL lesson plan deals with the theme of English for Health and Safety. Student will learn about different vocabulary and language structures to talk about different chemicals that are used at workplaces, and identify different work processes that can release a variety of harmful substances that are hazardous to the health that the risks posed.
It focus on practicing key skills related to listening, speaking, collaboration and critical thinking. Language structures covered include: use of modals, various collocations, using connecting words related to chemical safety, as well as word formation. It also includes a number of matching exercises related to chemical hazard signs and chemical safety equipment (PPE). Others exercises include chemical label identification, case studies and student scenario review.
You will need at least 90 minutes to complete this lesson, if used as a flipped ESL lesson. However, lesson can run up to 3 hours ( consider two 90-minute lessons or for university teachers adjust as needed).
While targeting intermediate and upper-intermediate language learners of English, it is highly adaptable as it have been purposely designed to faciliate mixed-levelled classes. This includes in a tertiary institution such as a university or within a professional environment, targeting professionals.
