Smart cities and the visual impaired

This ESL lesson plan  deals with the theme of Connected devices and Intelligent systems.  Specifically, the role of connected devices  within smart cities and it’s impact on people with disability particularly the visually impaired.  Students will learn vocabulary and language structure related to smart devices and relevant technological terms and expressions. The article referred to in this lesson is titled: Smart cities could give the visually impaired a new outlook on urban life by Nigel Linge : Professor (University of Sanford) which was published by The Conversation. 

The focus of this lesson includes practicing key skills related to reading, speaking, collaboration and critical thinking.  You will need at least 90 minutes to complete this lesson, if used as a flipped ESL lesson. However, lesson can run up to 3 hours ( consider two  90-minute lessons or for university teachers adjust as needed).

While targeting intermediate and upper-intermediate language learners of English, it is highly adaptable as it have been purposely designed to faciliate mixed-levelled classes. This includes in a tertiary institution such as a university or within a professional environment, targeting professionals.
